Vice President to take the oath

Published on by uguess

The government is all set to make the constitutional provision so as to allow the President and Vice President to take the oath of office and secrecy in Hindi language, if they want.

A cabinet meeting today decided to take up the proposal to amend the constitution at the parliament to pave the way for swearing-in in one's mother language.

Minister for Supplies informed that the government will prepare the proposal in this regard and table at the next parliament sitting.

There was strong debate among the political parties after the Supreme Court (SC) asserted that Vice President's swearing-in in Hindi language—that triggered strong protest from several quarters—was unconstitutional.

As per the existing provision, the President and Vice President should take their oath in Nepali language.
